Daniel Gilbert Valencia is the Program Manager for California Connects, a 10.9 million dollar grant program designed to decrease the Digital Divide by providing outreach, training, and educational support in key communities throughout the state. He is currently researching the connection between digital literacy and community college matriculation.

Daniel’s top interests are social media, social entrepreneurship, implications of gaming in education, virtual reality applications, QR codes, veteran services, bass guitar, and gluten-free baking.

Daniel served as an Air Force Intelligence Officer and National Guardsmen for 8 years. His accomplishments include full-spectrum intelligence support for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Fire Intelligence during the California Wild Fires of 2008, and Project Manager for creation of hands-on training for active duty and reserve cyber warfare units. He has also conducted in-depth analysis on emerging internet gaming trends, which was utilized by Blizzard to develop the online game, World of Warcraft.

Daniel holds a Master of Science in Education Administration from Drexel University and is currently working towards his Doctorate in Education Administration. His capstone research project was an action-research based case study of student and faculty iPod and iPhone usage in academic settings. He has also conducted research on post-secondary education information technology policies that effect students and staff with impairments. Daniel earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego. As a first generation college graduate and Mt San Jacinto Junior College transfer student, Daniel is passionate about providing access for all Californians to educational opportunities.
